From the Principal

Hi Buker families,

It was great to see so many families at our Back to School Night on Tuesday. It feels so good to be able to do events like this again. These face-to-face connections are essential to building the Buker community.

Student safety is paramount at Buker, and part of that is making sure that if a student is dismissed during the school day that they are released to a trusted adult. Ms. Senn is still getting to know families, so if you are coming to pick your child up during the day please bring an ID with you. As time goes on and Ms. Senn gets to know families, this will become less necessary, but at this time an ID is the best way for her to make sure students are released to the right people. Also, if you are going beyond the front lobby, please get a visitor badge from the office.

We have been working with Salter Transportation over the past few weeks to tighten up route timing to ensure that all students arrive at school on time. After many days of monitoring route arrivals at the schools, we have determined that we need to shift the start time of Elementary Route 9 back by five minutes. This change will take effect on Monday, September 26th. All other bus routes will remain unchanged unless future adjustments are needed.

The Friends of Buker emailed everyone about the Elementary Directory. This is a very useful tool to have in the community. If you have not completed the form and want to, this is a reminder. Information is due on September 30.

Finally, if your child has a change in dismissal plans please make sure you let your child's teacher know. This includes walkers who are going somewhere else. Upper grade students are allowed to walk home alone, but if it's their plan to walk somewhere else after school that is a change in dismissal plans that we want to know about. If there were ever any confusion about where a student went after school, we would want to know if they walked somewhere different at the end of the day.

Have a great weekend!

-Ben
