School Resource Officer
Gina Bertelli, SRO
Officer Bertelli joined the Hamilton-Wenham staff in December 2022 but began her public safety journey working campus safety at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. In 2012, Gina joined the US Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer and served until 2020, deploying to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Bertelli joined Hamilton PD in 2015 as a part-time Officer. Then, she accepted a full-time position with Merrimac PD in 2017. Three years later, in 2020, the opportunity arose for Bertelli to transfer back to Hamilton as a full-time member of the HPD. In late 2022, Gina became a certified School Resource Officer through NASRO. Officer Bertelli holds many certifications, including being a RAD instructor teaching women self-defense techniques.
Bertelli holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Merrimack College and was a scholarship athlete on the softball team. Officer Bertelli continued her education at the American Military University, earning a master’s in environmental management.
Gina enjoys being outdoors at the beach, lakes, and mountains in her spare time. She plays hockey, skis, mountain bikes, and paddleboards and loves spending time with her two cats, Helen and Radar.
School Resource Officer's Duties
We are fortunate to benefit from having a School Resource Officer (SRO) in our schools. When given the opportunity, proper training, and support, SROs become important members of our school communities. School Resource Officers often become trusted mentors, role models for students and support for staff. The table below clearly outlines what an SRO is and is not.
School Resource Officer will be seen in and around our schools throughout the school year. Having an SRO in our schools supports our Towns community-oriented policing philosophy while also increasing collaboration between both town police departments and our schools. We are very appreciative and excited to work with both the Hamilton and Wenham Police Departments to ensure successful implementation of this program.
